Happy Canada Day!
I'm not Canadian or living in Canada but I married a very proud Canadian. We travel to Canada at least once a year, whether it be British Columbia just a couple hours drive north or across the continent to Ontario, the Province of Elsie's Youth.
We like maple syrup, Tim Horton's Donuts, Hockey (Okay we're more football and baseball fans in my house, but we've watched hockey) and even curling (okay, I made that up too, except for the Olympics, we watch with strange curiosity, but so does our Canadian family). We like to think of ourselves as semi-Canadians. In fact, my children may claim Canadian citizenship due to their mom, and one already has. Being a dual citizen has advantages when traveling around the world.
Canada has a special place in our lives. It's our familiar but different second home. It's miles and miles of stunning wilderness with cool multicultural metropolises. It's liters instead of gallons, it's milk in a bag not a carton it's colorful and now partially transparent currency instead of just green, and a lot more.
We wish our Canadian family and friends everywhere a Happy Canada Day today!
