A peek into the Future, New Technologies

A peek into the Future, New Technologies

I love to crawl the web and use sites like Digg.Com to find interesting articles that I might not find in my local paper.  Tonight I learned of two new technologies which will impact our lives as homeowners and as agents.

First, Lithium Ion batteries that last 10 times longer than our current generation of batteries.  I've bought hundreds of batteries for my digital camera, my kids controllers, flashlights, radios all types of things.  Currently our choices are one time use alkaline or rechargeable lithium-ion.  Rechargeable batteries are great, they hold up longer in cameras and with reuse pay for themselves over alkaline.  Eventually though they won't accept a charge and must be replaced.

PC World's Chris Brandrick has an article titled; Lithium-ion Battery Life Could Reach 20 Years.   Please read the article for yourself.  In a nutshell, through some new technology the ability to recharge these new batteries for up to 20 years may not be too far off.  Whether for cars, cameras or cell phones, this will be a great improvement.

Second, Stuart Fox at Popular Science has an article titled, Superinsulating Aerogells Arrive on Home Insulation Market At Last.    Again, read the article, its brief and to the point.  To summarize, these incredible insulating materials have been around for a long time, but through some recent production advances they can now be made affordable for general use.  They are 4 times more efficient than fiberglass.  In addition to being super insulating, they are also permeable to water vapor and flameproof making them more valuable in construction use.

So, look for better batteries coming to a phone or camera near you to take better pictures of better insulated homes sometime in the near better future.
